Le Meridien Lav is a proud holder of the Green Key Certificate, the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry globally.

What we do!

  • We think of the environment

    You have chosen a Green Key certified establishment. This means that you are automatically helping to preserve the environment, as we meet Green Key’s stringent environmental and sustainability requirements. We make it easier for you to care for the environment without it diminishing your experience and comfort.

  • We save on water – not on cleanliness

    Water is important to us all. We aim to make it easy for you to use less water without it diminishing your experience and comfort. We have water-saving showers, taps and toilets, so that both you as a guest and we as an establishment save water.

  • We save on energy – not on lighting

    We do not save on lighting, but on energy. We do this by using low-energy lighting, sensors and an intelligent light management system. We make it easy for you to save energy while ensuring that you have cosy, functional lighting.

  • We save on chemicals – not on hygiene

    We use environmentally friendly and environmentally labelled cleaning agents, equipment and work methods, so that less chemicals and water are used. We want you to benefit from a better indoor climate with fewer chemicals from cleaning agents while keeping everything clean and nice.

  • We sort waste

    We sort waste into ‘regular’ and ‘environmentally harmful’, so that as much as possible gets recycled and constitutes least harm for the environment. We want to make it easy for you to sort your waste. Please place newspapers, paper, cans, plastic and glass bottles beside the waste bin. Used batteries may be handed in to reception.

  • We make environmentally friendly food

    We make food in an environmentally friendly way using organic, seasonal, local and free-range products. We want to make it easy for you to care for the environment – also when you eat – while giving you good, intriguing taste experiences.

  • We save on washing – not on hygiene

    We use environmentally friendly and environmentally labelled detergents and do not wash clothes, towels and bed linen that have not been used. To save on detergents, packaging, water and energy, we give you the option of using your towels an extra day. Please leave your towel on the floor if you wish to have it changed. We also normally wash your bed linen every third night only, unless you ask us to do it more frequently.

  • We can tell you about environmentally friendly forms of transport

    Bus, train, metro and bicycle are more environmentally friendly forms of transport than cars and taxis. We want to make it easy for you to use environmentally friendly forms of transport. See our website, the information in your room or ask at reception for information about public transport and bicycle rentals.

MISSION STATEMENT

 

At Le Meridien Lav, we trust it’s our role to shape a more sustainable travel environment. We believe we are all guests on this planet and thus need to integrate eco-friendly practices into all aspects of our hotel operations to preserve the environment and leave it for future generations as our legacy.

It is our mission to provide exceptional hospitality while minimizing our ecological footprint, supporting local community and fostering a culture of sustainability among our guests and staff.

In that respect, this Sustainable Policy outlines our approach to integrating eco-friendly practices, which we are committed to taking through the following three core pillars

 1.  Care for Environment

·     Energy Efficiency: We reduce energy consumption by using LED lighting and smart AC systems. Furthermore, we are in the process of introducing a renewable energy source through the installation of the solar panels.

·     Water Conservation: The associates are aware of the importance of water usage reduction and focus on it throughout hotel departments, while the Engineering contributes to the process by installing low-flow fixtures and focusing on preventive maintenance.

·     Waste Reduction: Comprehensive recycling and composting programs ensure minimal landfill waste. Significant waste reduction effort is made by removing single-use disposables and replacing them with reusable items, and by introducing the portions’ control which are now managed to minimize food waste.

2.           Social Responsibility

·       Sustainable Sourcing: Our first choice are always suppliers that have commitment to green environmental policies to reduce packaging waste and to improve the environmental impact of all products supplied to us and purchased by us.

·       Community Engagement: We participate in local environmental initiatives and support community projects, either via donations or volunteerism. We also regularly participate in the annual Earth Hour as support for the global climate change movement

 3.           Guest Experience

·       Eco-Friendly Amenities: Our rooms feature eco-friendly toiletries and cleaning products.

·       Locally Sourced Menus: We offer menus featuring locally sourced, organic, and seasonal ingredients.

·       Sustainable meeting practices: Digital signage, linen-less meeting tables, bottled water alternatives, condiments served in bulk, paper and pens on side, paper recycling)

·       Sustainable provision of information: Digital screens in public areas

·       Sustainable plants and florals in the hotel

By regular review and update of this Policy, we aim to not only significantly reduce our environmental footprint but also enhance the guest experience and contribute positively to the local community, positioning ourselves as a leader in sustainable hospitality in Croatia.
